What is DIRT? This is a tax paid on any interest earned in respect of a deposit with a financial institution (standard rate of DIRT is currently 35%, but is subject to change. Check out www.revenue.ie for current rate). The Bank deducts DIRT from the interest it pays to customers and forwards it to the Revenue Commissioners. There are certain exceptions where customers may be exempt from paying DIRT. Check out www.revenue.ie for more information.
