Post a signed written instruction to the address noted below or complete and return the Account Closure Form.

Include your name and account number on the signed written instruction.

If you have funds in the account, please advise where these are to be transferred to, including all details ie: IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and Account name.

You may receive a call to confirm account details if you are transferring to an account which is not is your own name.

Please note the following:

  • You should ensure that you have another account for your daily banking open before you close your KBC account.
  • Where a Joint Account is to be closed, we will close the account on the instruction of one party unless you have instructed us otherwise.
  • When your Current Account is closed any cards, direct debits and standing orders associated with your account will be cancelled.
  • If you have a Deposit Account, you will no longer be able to make online transfers without a Current Account.  
  • If your Current Account is linked to another product e.g. an investment fund or mortgage discount it may not be advisable to close your account at this time. If your current account is linked to another product, please get in touch with us before switching your account on 1800 93 92 44.
  • Access to your current account via the KBC mobile app and online banking will no longer be available when your account is closed. You should review your eDocuments and eStatements folders and save or print any documents that you wish to keep.
  • Any fees or charges due on the account will be deducted from your account balance and any overdrawn balance must be cleared before the account can be closed.
  • Should you wish to avail of an overdraft with another financial institution, you will need to complete a new application, which will be credit assessed in the normal manner. Ensure that you allow sufficient time for completion of this process.

Deposits

If there is a balance in your account, you must provide the IBAN and the account holder name for the account you wish to transfer the funds to.

Please note: for all Deposit accounts transfers, the funds must be transferred to an account in the same name as the account held in KBC. We do not permit 3rd party withdrawals on deposit accounts.

You may receive a call to confirm account details to where the funds will be transferred to.

Fixed Term Accounts/Notice Account customers:

  • For 35 Day Notice Accounts, the 35 day notice requirement continues to apply for account closures
  • For Fixed Term Deposits, closure instructions can be accepted up to 30 days in advance of maturity and 14 days after (cooling off period).  Fixed Term Deposits cannot be closed until the maturity date has been reached.


Please note the following:

  • If your Deposit Account is linked to a KBC Investment account, you will need to fully redeem and close your Investment Account before your Deposit Account can be closed.

Credit Cards

  • You must advise us by phone on 1800 93 92 44 or by post to:  KBC Bank Ireland, Sandwith Street, Dublin 2 to cancel and close your credit card.
  • Include your name and credit card number on the signed written instruction.
  • Any balance owing, together with any outstanding fees, charges or Government Stamp Duty must be cleared before the account can be closed.
  • KBC will generally collect Government Stamp Duty on 1st April, in arrears, unless you close the account during the year. The tax year for credit cards runs from 2nd April to the following 1st April.
  • If you close your Credit Card account now, you will be liable for a Government Stamp Duty charge of €30 upon closure, for tax year 2022 (2nd April 2022- 1st April 2023).

Please note the following:

  • Access to accounts via the KBC mobile app and online banking will no longer be available. You should review your eDocuments and eStatements folders and save or print any documents that you wish to keep.
  • If you have any recurring payments on your Credit Card account, these payments will cease upon closure. You will need to contact the payee to arrange an alternative method of payment.
  • Should you wish to avail of another credit card with another financial institution, you will need to complete a new application, which will be credit assessed in the normal manner. Ensure that you allow sufficient time for completion of this process.
  • If you have a balance on your card with KBC, this can be transferred to the new account which you have opened. Your new credit card provider can arrange a balance transfer on request.
