Students can travel across Europe with new KBC ‘Fly or Cash’ offer.
KBC Bank Ireland today launched a unique new offer for third level students which could see them jet-setting across Europe over the coming months. Designed to appeal to students’ love of travel and adventure, KBC is offering students a ‘fly or cash’ alternative when they open a current account with a choice of €100 or two free return flights.
KBC’s new student incentive offers third level students who open a KBC current account a choice of a free return European flight (incl. taxes) or €40 cash. In addition, student customers who conduct at least 10 debit card transactions before the end of the year, can redeem another free return flight including taxes (if they originally choose the flight option) or €60 cash (if they choose the cash option). The offer means that students can defer their first flights and nominate a friend to travel with them using the second flight, or bank €100 cash to the current account. The attractive initiative will appeal to students looking for a modern banking partner and support for their future travel plans or college finances as the new term gets underway.
To coincide with the offer, a new KBC survey* of Irish students and their attitudes towards money has revealed that one in three (33%) students receive their spending money from their parents, with three in ten (31%) using part time work to finance their lifestyle. When asked where most of their monthly income goes, six in ten (62%) of respondents said food, with one in three (33%) saying transport was their most significant expense.
Half (52%) of those surveyed said that the cost of living is a regular source of worry, with one in three (32%) saying that paying their rent was a recurring concern. When asked where they turn for advice when making a financial decision, six in ten (62%) students said they consult with their parents, with 44% using online resources and one in three (34%) talking to their bank.
Announcing the new student offer, Edward Dillon, Director of Products, KBC Bank Ireland, said: “We have a particularly attractive incentive for students this year as we’ve revamped our offer to appeal to their love of travel and adventure. Our new student Current Account incentive, combined with free banking is a competitive offering for all third level attendees this September.
“Our research demonstrates that just one in three are turning to their bank to discuss their finances, with a similar number saying they are nervous discussing it with someone at their bank. The traditional ‘high counter’ bank branch can be an intimidating environment and we’ve designed our hubs, our website and App to appeal to the modern day consumer and be responsive to their needs. Our team will be on the road over the next few weeks at colleges around Ireland to meet with students and help them with their financial planning,” said Edward Dillon.
To qualify for KBC’s new offer, students simply need to open a new KBC current account online, by phone or at any of KBC’s hubs in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kildare, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Limerick.
The KBC offer applies to customers opening a student current account between 4th August and 31st October 2015.
