KBC is new Title Sponsor of National Student Media Awards

KBC celebrates student media talent with new Outstanding Achievement Award and €1,000 prize.

KBC Bank has taken up the mantle as the new title sponsor of the 2015 National Student Media Awards (Smedias), which take place on Thursday, 16th April in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

KBC’s sponsorship brings a welcome boost for the popular student media event with the introduction of a new prize category this year. The ‘KBC Outstanding Achievement Award’ will recognise Ireland’s most exceptional student media talent and reward the winner with a €1,000 prize fund from KBC.

A panel of national journalists and broadcasters judge the awards each year, which receive around 1,000 entries from top media students across Ireland. In addition to receiving their Smedia award, some winners will also be given the opportunity to gain work experience with a national newspaper or television station.

The National Student Media Awards have been run annually by oxygen.ie for the last fifteen years, with over 600 students and prominent national journalists attending the ceremony each year.

Aidan Power, Head of Brand and Marketing at KBC Bank Ireland, the title sponsor of the 2015 awards, said; “KBC Bank is delighted to sponsor the Smedia awards, which shine a light on emerging new talent in Irish journalism. As Ireland’s newest, most innovative retail bank, we understand the importance of encouraging students on their chosen career path from an early stage. The Smedia awards recognise the brightest and best in the business and provide a platform for the next generation of student journalists to shine. We look forward to celebrating with this year’s applicants and winners at what promises to be a fantastic event for all involved.”
