My KBC Experience

On the 5th of June 2019, I walked t

hrough the doors of KBC’s head offices for my first official day on the job. I’ve always been impressed with KBC’s “Doing Different” and “Digital First” strategies, so I was delighted to land a summer internship with them, thanks to my involvement with Enactus, a student social entrepreneurship organisation.

Having finished what was a whirlwind of a summer with KBC, I’m delighted to say I have learned so much and have gained real industry experience that I can take with me into my professional career.

I was placed in the Marketing department, where I was welcomed with open arms and given the title ‘Communications and Sustainability Intern’. Everyone on the team made me feel at ease, which I was relieved about as I was initially worried about joining a new environment. As a team, we enjoyed each other’s company yet respected the work that we had to do - leaning on each other to help out when needed for different projects. I was concerned my lack of experience in the financial services industry would hinder my work - however this was not the case. On the job I picked up lots of information about the way things are done in the banking sector and my colleagues were patient with my never ending questions.

Due to the fast paced style of work within the marketing department, I was working on different projects all the time.  Because of this, no work day was the same - which made going to work really enjoyable and exciting for me. I particularly enjoyed working on Internal Communications and campaigns, something I learned to be very important. Internal communications is an integral part of an organisation and can really help to boost employee morale.

Some of the highlights of my summer internship were facilitating the staff beach clean ups with Clean Coasts, travelling to Cork for KBC’s WellFest Summer Tour & working at the KBC Dublin Marathon Race Series.

As you can tell, I got a taste for everything this summer and met so many people on my journey. Although only 3 months long, my internship has been so busy and fulfilling thanks to my management and team who provided me with the best possible experience.

The thing I will miss the most is the people – at KBC, we are presented with lots of opportunities to get to know other colleagues from different parts of the business and this really helped me settle in to the role. I am positive I’ve made friends for life here and would love to come back to KBC one day.
