KBC Bank Ireland launches Apple Pay

KBC brings Apple Pay to customers making mobile banking easier than ever before

KBC Bank Ireland today launches Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay for goods and services that’s fast and convenient. It is the latest digital offering from KBC making mobile banking easier than ever before. This digital innovation is in direct response to customers’ needs as mobile and online usage by KBC customers rose by 74% in 2016.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
KBC current account and credit card holders with an Apple iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later and Apple Watch will be able to use Apple Pay everywhere contactless payments are accepted.
Eddie Dillon, Director of Innovation at KBC Bank Ireland, said Apple Pay will make banking and shopping more convenient for KBC customers and is part of the evolution of KBC into a digital-first customer-centric bank, facilitating ‘always-on 24/7 accessibility’ in terms of distribution and service.

“At KBC we pride ourselves on digital innovation and we are thrilled to be one of the first banks in Ireland to offer Apple Pay. This development enhances our €100 million multi-year investment plan in digital channels, banking systems and physical presence in Ireland. As Ireland has the largest mobile penetration in Europe, KBC will continue to offer our customers the best in class digital solutions as we evolve into a digital- first customer centric bank.

“We were the first bank in Ireland with mobile current account openings and now customers can pay for goods worldwide anywhere contactless payments are accepted by simply using their mobile phone.”

Apple Pay is easy to set up and works with an iPhone 6 or later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 or later and an Apple Watch paired to an iPhone 5 or later. Online shopping in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch, or with Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro.
