KBC Bank first to offer current account openings via mobile app

Personal banking customers now have the option to open a KBC current account entirely by mobile with the release of the bank’s latest mobile banking app.

KBC Bank Ireland has become the first retail bank in Ireland to offer personal banking customers the option to open a KBC current account entirely by mobile with the release of the bank’s latest mobile banking app.
 
KBC has developed a standout new feature on its app whereby customers can photograph and upload all their documentation using the camera on their mobile phone or tablet, making the application process entirely digital. 
 
The app provides a secure, flexible and convenient option for personal banking customers to open a current account, and removes the need to go to a hub in person, or follow up with paperwork by post.
 
The new app anticipates customer demand for increasingly sophisticated online banking services. The bank will announce further enhancements to its online offering later this year.  These investments in KBC Bank’s digital platforms form part of a wider ongoing multi-year investment plan of over €100 million in KBC’s digital channels, banking systems and physical presence in Ireland.

Available from today for both Apple and Android devices, customers can use the app to sign up for a KBC current account in a few simple and secure steps:-

1. Register your Phone Download, open the app and input your details.
KBC texts the activation code to enter and register your phone securely. Personal Id and your Proof of address is required.
 
2. Choose an Account Select a KBC Current Account or KBC Extra Current Account.
 
3. Enter your Details Answer a number of personal and regulatory questions, helping to further secure the user’s app experience. You will then be issued with your IBAN.
 
4. Upload your Documents Use your phone’s camera, follow the prompts to upload and submit all your documentation. KBC will alert you when the account is active.

Over 74,000 new customer accounts were opened at KBC during 2015, with the bank’s competitive current account offering one of the main reasons why new customers choose to bank with KBC.
