Sky to launch broadbank, talk in Ireland
Sky today confirmed plans to launch a bundled home communication services - Sky Broadband and Sky Talk - in Ireland from later this year in a move its sais will shake up the Irish market.
The company has agreed a wholesale deal with BT Ireland which will enable it to add home broadband and telephony to its existing pay TV service.
In launching home communications services in Ireland, Sky hopes to build on the increasing appetite of consumers to enjoy the convenience and simplicity of taking a bundle of services from one company, a statement from the company said.
Pricing and timing for all products will be confirmed in the coming months.
To support the introduction of Sky's new services, and as part of the company's commitment to invest in its Irish operations and people, Sky will in September open a dedicated Customer Contact Centre for Irish customers, at Burlington Plaza, Dublin.
This will see its workforce increase to 900 people over the next 18 months. Recruitment for the new positions, which were announced earlier this year, is currently underway.
Since launching in 2006, Sky has grown faster than any other home broadband and home phone provider and is now the UK's best selling triple play provider, with a third of its customers taking all three services.
"We've been looking at how best to bring our customers more choice and better value in broadband and talk. We're confident of delivering the right products at the right prices so customers have a real alternative to the incumbent services they've been used to," said JD Buckley, Managing Director of Sky Ireland.
"We are excited to be broadening the range of products we are able to offer our customers and at deepening our relationship with them. We look forward to delivering the innovative products, better value and great customer service that consumers have come to expect from Sky."
Customers will be able to pre-register for broadband and talk in due course.
